Cleansing Our Homes And Dedicating Our Lands to the Lord

REPENTANCE – PART 2

Day 4 of 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

INTRODUCTION

Today we continue with repentance, but our focus is on our homes, our land, our workplaces and offices. It is important that every area of our lives is brought under the Lordship of Jesus. This is our year to manifest God’s glory, so we must make sure nothing impedes our progress.

Throughout Scripture, God makes it clear that what we allow into our lives, homes, and land matters. Our homes are not merely physical spaces; they are spiritual environments. They can become places of peace, rest, and God’s presence, or places of compromise that quietly weaken spiritual authority.

This teaching is not about fear, superstition, or an obsession with darkness. It is about repentance, discernment, and alignment with God, so that our homes and properties reflect His holiness and host His presence.

God’s presence filled the tabernacle and the temple when they were consecrated to Him. And although God now dwells in us by His Spirit, Scripture still shows that places can be spiritually marked either through devotion to God or through doors opened to the enemy.

Deuteronomy 7:25-26 NKJV

25 You shall burn the carved images of their gods with fire; you shall not covet[a] the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, lest you be snared by it; for it is an abomination to the Lord your God. 26 Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be doomed to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest it and utterly abhor it, for it is an [b]accursed thing.

A SOBERING LESSON FROM JOSHUA

When Israel suffered an unexpected defeat at Ai(Joshua 8), Joshua fell before the Lord in confusion. God revealed the real issue: accursed things from Jericho had been taken and brought into Israel’s tents (see Joshua 7).

What God had commanded to be destroyed was kept. As a result:

Israel lost spiritual authority

Victory turned into defeat

The entire community was affected

The problem was not the strength of the enemy, but compromise within God’s people.

Biblical principle:

What we tolerate privately can weaken us corporately.

What we bring into our homes can affect our spiritual authority.

1) HOW HOMES, POSSESSIONS, AND LAND CAN BE AFFECTED

Think in terms of access points how spiritual influence gains a foothold.

A. Through People

Spaces are spiritually influenced by what is practised in them. Patterns such as:

Sexual immorality

Violence

Occult practices

Addiction

Persistent, unrepented sin

Jesus teaches in Matthew 12, that spirits seek “houses”. Repeated activity invites repeated influence.

B. Through Places and Land

Some properties carry a history of darkness, violence, idolatry, exploitation, occult practice, innocent bloodshed, or repeated tragedy. Jericho is a clear biblical example: though destroyed, its curse remained in place for generations.

Not every difficult home is spiritually compromised; but history matters, and wisdom requires discernment.

Jericho’s curse persisted across generations (Joshua 6:26; 1 Kings 16:34).

C. Through Objects

Objects can either be:

1.Infested – ordinary items affected by demonic presence in a place

2.Dedicated (accursed) – items intentionally used for idolatry, occult practice, divination, or spiritual rituals

Scripture consistently shows occult items were destroyed, not repurposed (Acts 19:19).

D. Through Covenant Openings

Some doors are not physical items but ongoing compromise, such as:

Pornography

Persistent unforgiveness

Substance abuse

Habitual sin

Occult curiosity “just for interest”

Spiritual warfare is not only about confronting darkness, it is about closing doors.

2) EXAMPLES OF ACCURSED ITEMS

This is not about attacking cultures or art, but discerning spiritual purpose and dedication.

Occult and Divination

Ouija boards (including digital forms)

Tarot cards

Astrology and zodiac devotion

Spell books, ritual tools, pendulums, crystal balls

“Energy cleansing” practices replacing prayer and Christ’s authority

New Age and Spirit Guide Items

“Third eye” symbolism

Spirit guide imagery

Crystals used for protection, channelling, or divination

Practices designed to spiritually “yoke” outside of Christ

Cultural artworks, pictures, carvings or symbols that are spiritually dedicated or used as power objects

Idols and Spiritual Power Objects

Idol figurines (e.g., Ganesha marketed as “good luck” or “remover of obstacles”)

Charms used for protection or favour apart from God

“Good Luck” Objects

Talismans, lucky charms, protection bracelets or necklaces

These subtly replace trust in God with superstition.

Media That Opens Doors

Pornography

Explicit occult or ritual-focused content that normalises darkness

Other Common Items

Dream catchers used for spiritual protection

Sage used ritually to cleanse “energy/spirits” rather than relying on Christ

3) COMMON MANIFESTATIONS OF DEMONIC INFLUENCE

Scripture warns us not to be unaware of Satan’s schemes (2 Corinthians 2:11). These are patterns, not medical diagnoses.

Spiritual and Emotional

Resistance to prayer, Scripture, worship, or church

Spiritual heaviness or numbness

Persistent anxiety, fear, or dread

Nightmares, night terrors, insomnia

Household and Relational

Oppressive atmosphere in the home

Escalating marital conflict after moving

Rebellion in children without prior pattern

Relational breakdown tied to a property

Life and Financial Patterns

Persistent loss despite diligence

Near-breakthrough collapse

Progress blocked without logical explanation

In Joshua 7

What Israel brought into the tent weakened the entire nation.

What was cursed externally becomes internalised when brought into the home.

4) PRACTICAL STEPS TO CLEANSE YOUR HOME

Deuteronomy

”Do not bring any detestable objects into your home, for then you will be destroyed, just like them. You must utterly detest such things, for they are set apart for destruction.“

This process is simple, biblical, and repeatable.

Step 1: Begin with Repentance

Repent on behalf of yourself and, where appropriate, the property.

2 Chronicles 7:14

“If My people… will humble themselves and pray… I will heal their land.”

Pray:

Confess known or suspected sin

Renounce curses, dedications, or covenants made by previous occupants

Plead the blood of Jesus for cleansing

Step 2: Remove Accursed Items

Check cupboards, storage, lofts, garages, and digital spaces

Dispose of items, do not sell or pass them on

Ensure they cannot be reused

Step 3: Renounce and Break Agreements

Pray simply:

“I renounce involvement with ______.”

“I cancel every assignment of darkness in Jesus’ name.”

“I forgive and release all connected to this.”

Step 4: Cleanse and Dedicate the Home

Pray room by room

Anoint doors and windows as an act of consecration (oil is symbolic, not magic)

Speak Scripture aloud (Psalm 91; Isaiah 54:17; Joshua 24:15)

Step 5: Establish Order and Holiness

God instructed Israel to keep the camp clean because He walked among them (Deuteronomy 23:13–14).

Order, cleanliness, and purity support a holy environment.

5) HOW TO DEDICATE LAND OR PROPERTY TO GOD

Cleansing removes compromise; dedication establishes purpose.

A. Gather and Prepare

Invite family or spiritual leaders if possible. Prepare through prayer and worship.

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”

— Psalm 24:1

B. Pray a Prayer of Dedication

Thank God for the property and commit it fully to His purposes.

C. Declare God’s Ownership

Speak Scripture over the land:

Joshua 1:3

Psalm 127:1

Proverbs 10:22

D. Anoint the Land

Use oil as a symbol of consecration—mark doors, boundaries, or significant points.

E. Make a Covenant with God

Verbally commit to steward the land for God’s glory, peace, and righteousness.

F. Offer Thanksgiving

Offerings are biblical acts of honour and gratitude (see 2 Chronicles 7; 1 Chronicles 21; Nehemiah 12).

Offerings may be:

Financial

Acts of generosity

Firstfruits

6) HOSTING THE PRESENCE OF GOD DAILY

Deliverance removes darkness; discipleship maintains freedom.

Make your home a place of worship

Build a culture of prayer

Practise repentance and forgiveness quickly

Guard what enters through screens, conversations, relationships, and objects

A protected home is usually a well-guarded home.

CONCLUSION

Cleansing and dedication are not rituals, they are acts of alignment.

“May God Himself sanctify you through and through.”

— 1 Thessalonians 5:23

As we remove compromise and consecrate our homes and land to the Lord, we create space for His peace, His presence, and His blessing to dwell among us.
