DAY 3 – REPENTANCE

21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

FROM CONSECRATION TO REPENTANCE

Today is Day 3 of our 21 days of prayer and fasting. Over the last two days, we have intentionally dealt with personal consecration—setting ourselves apart unto God. Consecration prepares the altar of our hearts; repentance purifies it.

Consecration says, “Lord, I belong to You.”

Repentance says, “Lord, align me fully with You.”

Repentance is God’s gracious invitation to return completely and sincerely to Him. It is not condemnation, but restoration. It is not shame, but transformation. Through repentance, spiritual barriers are removed, fellowship with God is restored, and spiritual vitality is renewed.

WHAT IS REPENTANCE?

The Greek word for repentance is metanoia, which means a transformative change of heart and mind, resulting in a complete change of direction. Repentance is more than remorse or regret—it is a deliberate turning.

To repent is:

To turn around

To change one’s mind and purpose

To make a conscious decision to walk in a new direction aligned with God

“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.”

Acts 3:19 (NKJV)

True repentance does not only change behaviour; it transforms the heart.

THE OPPOSITE OF REPENTANCE

Scripture often helps us understand truth by contrast. The opposite of repentance is described as hardening the heart. It is also referred to as being stiff-necked—resistant, stubborn, and unwilling to change.

To refuse repentance is to resist God’s love, disregard His sacrifice, and insist on having things our own way. It is to refuse to be moved by God’s mercy and wisdom.

“But My people would not heed My voice,And Israel would have none of Me.So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart,To walk in their own counsels.”

Psalm 81:11–12 (NKJV)

Repentance keeps the heart soft, responsive, and aligned with God.

THE BLESSINGS AND POWER OF REPENTANCE

Repentance is not loss ,it is gain. Scripture reveals the powerful outcomes of a repentant heart.

1. Repentance Brings Refreshing

Acts 3:19 (NKJV)

“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.”

2. Repentance Ushers in Forgiveness, Restoration, and Purification

1 John 1:9 (NKJV)

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

3. Repentance Produces Humility

James 4:6–10 (NKJV)

“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble… Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

4. Repentance Drives the Devil Away

James 4:7 (NKJV)

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

5. Repentance Frees Us from the Torment of Sin

Psalm 32:3–5 (NKJV)

“When I kept silent, my bones grew old… I acknowledged my sin to You… and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.”

6. Repentance Leads to the Fullness of Life in Christ

2 Corinthians 7:10 (NKJV)

“For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted.”

INSPIRATION FROM DAVID: A MODEL OF REPENTANCE

David understood repentance deeply. Among the Psalms are several known as penitential psalms—including Psalms 6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, and 143—written in moments of deep repentance and restoration. Let’s look at psalms 130:1-8

“Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications. If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope. My soul waits for the Lord More than those who watch for the morning— Yes, more than those who watch for the morning. O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He shall redeem Israel From all his iniquities.”

This Psalm reminds us that repentance always meets mercy, and confession always meets redemption.

FOUNDATIONAL SCRIPTURE FOR REPENTANCE

1 John 1:8–10 (NKJV)

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”

As we have learned from David in the previous verse, Repentance begins with honest acknowledgement, continues with confession, and results in cleansing and restoration.

PRAYER POINTS ON REPENTANCE

1. Repentance for Failure in God-Given Responsibilities

Deuteronomy 11:1 (NKJV)

Father, forgive me for every time I failed to fulfil the responsibilities You entrusted to me.

Forgive neglect, compromise, and inconsistency in my walk with You.

Restore in me a heart that loves You deeply and delights in obedience.

Help me to honour You in every role You have given me.

2. Repentance from Hidden Errors and Secret Faults

Psalm 19:12 (NKJV)

Lord, cleanse me from secret faults and unconscious sins.

Expose blind spots in my life by Your Spirit.

Purify my motives, intentions, and desires.

Let nothing hidden remain that would hinder my fellowship with You.

3. Repentance for the Condition of the Heart

Ephesians 4:31; Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV)

Father, cleanse my heart from bitterness, resentment, pride, and selfishness.

Heal wounds that have hardened my heart.

Guard my heart against temptation and wrong desires.

Help me to keep my heart pure and aligned with Your will.

4. Repentance for Generational and Bloodline Sins

Daniel 9:4–5 (NKJV)

Like Daniel, I stand in the gap and repent on behalf of my family line.

I confess generational sins and inherited patterns of iniquity.

I renounce every cycle of disobedience and rebellion.

Let the blood of Jesus cleanse my lineage completely.

5. REMITTING SINS IN THE FAMILY TREE

John 20:21–23 (NKJV)

“Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive (remit) the sins of any, they are forgiven them…”

The Greek word translated “remit” is aphiēmi, meaning:

To forgive

To release

To send away

To separate and let go

To remit sin is to remove its claim, break its hold, and restore surrendered territory back to God.

Prayer Points

By the authority of Jesus Christ, I remit every revealed sin in my family line.

I release forgiveness and cancel every legal claim of inherited iniquity.

I separate my life from generational bondage.

I reclaim my family heritage for the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

6-Repentance for Disobedience

1 Samuel 15:22 (NKJV)

Lord, forgive me for delayed, partial, or selective obedience.

Forgive moments where I chose convenience over obedience.

Align my heart fully with Your Word and commands.

Give me grace to obey promptly and completely.

7. Repentance for Idle and Destructive Words

Proverbs 18:20–21 (NKJV)

Father, forgive me for careless, idle, and harmful words I have spoken.

I repent of words spoken against my destiny and against others.

By the blood of Jesus, I reverse every negative declaration.

Teach me to speak words that bring life, healing, and hope.

CLOSING PRAYER

Father, today i come before You in humility and repentance.

I turn from sin and return fully to You.

Cleanse me, restore me, and renew me by Your Spirit.

Let times of refreshing come from Your presence As we continue this journey of prayer and fasting.

In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
